Traditional roof tiles

Traditional roof tiles from Heritage Clay Tiles Ltd last the longest

We all seem relatively happy to slap a lick of paint around every so often. We also don't seem overly phased by replacing a small decked area that may have seen better days, but when it comes to a new roof, you are looking at a major job and a major expense. This is why it is essential to make the right choice if you are faced with a new roof. If you want your roof to last a lifetime, it's important to pick out a roof tile with a good lifespan. Traditional roof tiles have a fantastic life span, often lasting for much longer than we do, so it would be false economy to choose anything different.

Traditional roof tiles made from clay are by far the longest lasting roof tile material available on the market. With a potential life expectancy of over a century, many traditional roof tiles even outlive the property they've been installed on. There is plenty of evidence from the ruins of Roman villas to prove this point.

Traditional roof tiles are the number one choice in terms of longevity. Although the lifespan of the tiles will obviously depend on the quality, care and initial installation, many traditional roof tiles can last anywhere from sixty to over one hundred and fifty years.

Get the right look with traditional roof tiles

We strive to have our property look great to onlookers. We spend a sizeable chunk of cash on replacement double glazed windows, extensions, conservatories and posh driveways, so why should we scrimp when it comes to our roofs? When considering what type of roof tile to have fitted, consider the type of finish it will create for your property. If your home has a traditional style, possibly with Tudor beams or other period features, a nice modern slate roof tile is likely to look out of place. Traditional roof tiles will not only look amazing, but will compliment your existing property too.

Pick traditional roof tiles that coordinate well with your property's external colour scheme and will not clash with any brickwork. As so many areas have preservation orders in place, also consider the appearance of any neighbouring properties. You'll want to ensure that your traditional roof tiles will fit into the surrounding area. Having said that, traditional roof tiles never stick out like a sore thumb on any property, unlike some of the alternative roofing materials.

A little information about Cambridgeshire

The most haunted places in Cambridgeshire

Ghost stories about things that go bump in the night have fascinated us for many centuries and Cambridgeshire certainly seems to have its fair share of creepy goings on.

Conington level crossing

Out in the middle of the Cambridgeshire Fenlands, Conington level crossing allegedly holds some dark and sinister secrets.

Locals report seeing ghostly figures crossing over the tracks in the dead of night. They also say they have heard some blood chilling screams and loud crashing sounds coming from the site across the low lying Fens.

Rumour has it that it all stems back to a tragic night just after the Second World War.

On a fateful night in 1948, Colonel Arthur Mellows, who was the mayor of Peterborough was hit and killed by a train while using the crossing in his car with his dog. Shortly after his death, six German prisoners of war were also killed at the Cambridgeshire site.

Following these sad events, signalmen at the site have reported hearing the crunching of tyres on gravel at the crossing, but no car was ever seen.

A Royal spirit lurks in a Cambridgeshire pub

An old hotel in Wansford, Cambridgeshire sits alongside the River Nene and is reported to have ghostly goings on with a royal flavour.

Many wealthy and famous guests have stayed at the hotel over the centuries. The most famous guest was Mary Queen of Scots, who stayed at the hotel while it was still a coaching inn on her travels to Fotheringhay Castle. Most ghost sightings tend to be associated with the location of the subjects death, but Mary is reported to haunt the hotel, even though she was put to death at Fotheringhay Castle.

Poor Mary was beheaded in 1587, after two strikes of an axe. The first hit the back of her head before the second severed her neck and her decapitated head was presented to the watching crowd.

Guests at the hotel report numerous sightings of her, with guests claiming they have encountered the spirit of Mary in the halls and their own rooms.

Guests at the Cambridgeshire hotel report not only sightings of figures but a feeling that someone is in the room with them, along with disembodied voices and footsteps.
