Traditional roof tiles for windy conditions

Weather in the United Kingdom can be fine one minute and blowing a gale the next. The rain can also turn from a quick shower to what resembles monsoon season in the tropics. Therefore, whatever is used as a roofing material has to be robust enough to deal with these ever changing weather conditions. Traditional roof tiles are the perfect solution for the English weather. They are tough, beautiful and will last a lifetime.

So, if you live in an area of the United Kingdom that experiences more than its fair share of stormy conditions and high winds, it's a good idea to fit traditional roof tiles that are robust enough to cope with these demanding conditions.

Traditional roof tiles have incredibly durable properties and a high-strength built in. Traditional roof tiles are resilient enough to withstand all manner of weather conditions without damage. When correctly installed, traditional roof tiles will last through many years of rough wind exposure and are easy to replace should a tile ever come loose, crack or fall off.

Why choose Heritage Clay Tiles Ltd traditional roof tiles?

Traditional roof tiles have been used for centuries and are known for their durability and longevity.

Traditional roof tiles can withstand extreme weather conditions, including very high winds, heavy rain, and snow.

Traditional roof tiles are fire-resistant and provide excellent insulation, which can help to lower your energy costs. This is particularly important today with the eye watering cost of heating a property.

Traditional roof tiles do not require very much maintenance. An occasional brush or spray with a moss killer may be all they need from time to time, although some argue that the build up of such organic matter simply enhances the traditional look of traditional roof tiles.

Traditional roof tiles are incredibly durable and can last a very long time.

Traditional roof tiles are pest resistant, so no worries about insects or other bugs eating their way through them.

Traditional roof tiles are environmentally friendly too. Remember, traditional roof tiles are made from naturally occurring materials and can also be recycled and used again.

Best of all, traditional roof tiles offer a wide variety of styles and increase the beauty of your property.

A little information about Bedfordshire

The Downs make Bedfordshire a magnet for walkers and hang gliders

Dunstable Downs are part of the Chiltern Hills, in southern Bedfordshire, located near the town of Dunstable. They are a chalk escarpment forming the north-eastern reaches of the Chilterns. At 797 feet high, Dunstable Downs form the highest point in the county of Bedfordshire.

Because of its elevation, Dunstable Downs hosted a station in the shutter telegraph chain which connected the Admiralty in London to its naval ships in the port of Great Yarmouth during the years 1808 to 1814.

A white lion becomes a Bedfordshire landmark

Another popular sight in Bedfordshire can be seen near Whipsnade Zoo. The Zoo commissioned an enormous lion shape to be carved into the chalk on the side of one of the hills. The lion can be seen from miles around and is a sure sign that one is close to the Bedfordshire Downs and ever popular zoo.

Bedfordshire attracts those who seek the thrills of flying

The Bedfordshire downs are used by gliders, kite fliers, hang gliders and paragliders because of their height. The London Gliding Club is based at the foot of the downs.

The thermals created by the Downs and the weather patterns make this part of Bedfordshire a must visit site for gliding thrill seekers and outdoor enthusiasts alike.

Much of the downs are managed by the National Trust as part of the Dunstable Downs & Whipsnade Estate property.

Archaeological places of interest in Bedfordshire

At the northern tip of the Dunstable Downs, lies the Five Knolls Barrow Cemetery. First described in the 18th century, the Bedfordshire site contained burials from the late Neolithic to Saxon eras prior to excavation. They include the "Five Knolls Woman", aged between 35 and 40 years, buried on her side with a flint knife. A mother and child, buried with a number of echinoid fossils were also found, dating approximately from the early Bronze Age. The site is also known for the deviant burial of executed Saxon criminals.

Wildlife to be seen in this part of Bedfordshire

The downs are home to a wide variety of wildlife including many rare wild flowers, such as the bee orchid, and butterfly species, like the marbled white and the chalkhill blue.

Non indigenous Bennett's wallabies, a small Kangaroo like creature that originate from Tasmania and the south-west coast of Australia are in the zoo. Fortunately they are well suited to the climate in Bedfordshire. The wallabies at the Bedfordshire zoo were originally captive, but broke out of their enclosures many years ago and are now spotted around Bedfordshire and other parts of the United Kingdom.

Some parts of the Bedfordshire downs were notified in 1987 under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 as a Site of Special Scientific Interest and are called Dunstable and Whipsnade Downs. Blow's Down is a continuation of the Dunstable Downs escarpment on the eastern side of Dunstable. It is also an SSSI and most of it is managed by the Wildlife Trust for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire.
